Candidate for
Captain Rep & MEC Chairman
Nomination voting opens
September 21 – October 6
The nomination narrows the field down to two candidates per position for the full-term election later this year, so it matters.
Vote at the ALPA balloting siteThe new term begins March 1, 2027.
One point I want to clarify up front, for those of you who are rightfully concerned, this election does not stop, pause, or slow down contract negotiations. The MEC and the Negotiating Committee are separate bodies, our current representatives will remain seated until the new term begins in March, and the Negotiating Committee keeps working through the transition to a new MEC.
For those of you I haven't flown with, I'm Mike Mossman, a Captain on the 747. I've been with the company since 2015, back when we still had 747 Classics, Flight Engineers, and the Teamsters on property.
I'm a pilot first and foremost, not a politician, and I'm not seeking this position to further my career. I'm seeking it because I believe Kalitta can be a better place to work for all of us and I'm willing to put in the work to make that happen.
I intend to be a full-time Chairman. This is an important position and it requires full-time effort. But I'll fly the line when the workload allows, to offset my cost to the membership, stay current, and keep firsthand experience of what is actually happening out on the line.
This is a very important election, the MEC that is elected will be responsible for building the team that will implement and defend our new contract when the time comes. The people you choose to represent you will directly impact your quality of life on the line.
Back the current committee in bringing a Tentative Agreement to the pilots for a vote. If it passes, work with the company and our committees to make sure everyone is properly trained on the new contract and that it's interpreted and implemented in the way most beneficial to the pilot group. If it doesn't pass, take an honest look at where it fell short, re-tool, re-group, and get back to the table with a clear picture of where the pilot group actually stands.
Make sure our committee chairs and members are properly trained, funded, and supported so they can be as effective as possible in their positions.
Meetings where pilots can participate, add agenda items, vote, and have their concerns fully addressed. No more closed-door meetings followed by an all-call where legitimate questions go unanswered.
Ensure the Secretary/Treasurer maintains and provides accurate, detailed financial statements to the membership, and regularly evaluates our spending so we can get out of debt as quickly as possible without sacrificing the quality of representation.
Maintain a cordial and professional working relationship with the company built on mutual respect and open, honest communication, while being a pilot advocate in every interaction.
Build a better way to capture and track the problems you run into on the line so they get to the right people, get followed up on, and don't get lost in an inbox.
